“What Happens to People When Work Disappears”

RUBI is excited and privileged to have New York Times Editorial Board Member and best -selling author, Farah Stockman join us for our February briefing, as she presents key findings from her 2021 book, American Made: What Happens to People When Work Disappears. Built around the experience of displaced factory workers near Indianapolis, Stockman looks deeply at the essential role work plays, not only in people’s ability to feed their families, but in their basic identity, their culture and their politics. She will also share insights she gained about how race and class intersect as people struggle with not only losing their job, but losing a major anchor of their community.
