September Briefing: Paolo Cremidis
Promoting Rural Diversity and Winning Elections: The Outrun Strategy
This presentation will be led by Paolo Cremidis, founder and Executive Director of the Outrun Coalition. Outrun was created by a group of young, diverse, rural democratic elected officials and party staffers to promote diversity in the context of rural Democratic Parties. Outrun assists rural progressive and democratic organizations by hosting free workshops on diversity in candidate recruitment with our large group of panelists composed of young BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) and LGBTQ+ elected officials from 10 different states. To date, Outrun has recruited over 200 candidates and as of last Tuesday has an over 70% win rate, more often than not in counties Donald Trump won.
Paolo will be joined by Eric Ball, an openly gay democrat elected to represent Walton, NY, an 83% Republican village; Chase Lindsey, an Outrun alumnus who helped Anderson County, TN, Democrats gain seats on their County Commission for the first time since the Civil War; and Giancarlo Llaverias, the first person of color elected to office in Dutchess County, NY.
